The Proposal - Sandra

Diving on the Maladive Islands

The Islands in the Maladives

In autumn 2007 we spent two weeks holiday on the Maladive Islands. First and foremost to relax and to recover from our stressful everyday life. But also to dive over the beautiful reef.

Relaxing and Enjoying

We spent beautiful days and enjoyed the warming sun. We were relaxing and I was able to devote myself to my favourite novels.

The Surprise

The Third Dive

After two successful and exciting dives we were looking forward to a third one in the very clear and shallow stretch of water.

After a light breakfast at the delicious buffet, we collected our diving equipment and went to the boatman, we had booked the day before.

Under Water

During the boat trip, which lasted a quarter of an hour, we let our gazes wander along the beauties of these islands. Without hardly any talking we enjoyed the minutes in our boat. We then put on our wet suits and let ourselves drop backwards into the warm and quiet water.

Without suspecting we were diving along the reef in a depth of around ten metres. Markus wasn't swimming ahead of me (as he usually did) but behind me. Suddenly he was next to me and touched me tenderly. I enjoyed this gesture which was quite unusual during dives.

The Board

All of a sudden he took a  board and a pen. At the beginning I didn't suspect anything, I didn't guess what was going to happen to me.  He wrote the words: "Dear Sandra" on the front of the small board. My heart started pounding. My pulse was rising immensly. Now I was sure - it was going to happen!

Fireworks

He turned the board and wrote: "Will you marry me?" in big letters on the back of the board. .  Fireworks started to explode in my body. I really enjoyed this moment. To get a proposal at such a special place! Wau!

My "Yes"

I nodded to him enthusiastically and gave him a hug which was not very easy with our outfit. I was looking forward to looking into Markus's eyes without breathing apparatus and diving goggles and kissing him passionately. Of course I wanted to confirm my "Yes" ashore.

The Evening

On board of the boat I showed Markus my deep joy and  closeness. He is going to be my husband!

In close togetherness we enjoyed our dinner at a beautifully set table directly on the beach and we talked about our wedding plans.

This day will stay in my heart forever.

Thank you Markus! Your Sandra.
